Mike and Lynne have been the proud owners of Lastingham country lodge since 2001. They built the guest cottages and refurbished the stately farmhouse, with Lynne drawing on her 34 years as an interior designer to give the main house and cottages their ecclectic and individual charm.
They left the Berea in Durban when Mike decided to leave the corporate rat race and escape to the country, realising his long-time dream of professional hospitality, which shows in his delicious cooking.
About Your Hosts
The stately farmhouse was built in 1912 by the Lidgett family, who immigrated to South Africa in 1849. They named it "Lastingham" after a vicarage in North Yorkshire . The small village nearby is named Lidgetton.
The guest cottages were built for maximum privacy out of sight of each other by Mike and Lynne when they bought the property. They have tried to create an inviting environment of fun, but also of tranquility, which is why there are no TVs in the rooms, though there is one in the guest lounge much enjoyed by weekend sports fans.
